For starters, total sales of medical & recreational marijuana products for the third quarter (July – September) of 2021 were up 52% over 2020.
That is almost exactly the same as the first 9 months of 2021 are up over last year. Adding 52% to 2020 sales gives us an eye-popping back of the envelope estimate of $1.76 billion dollars in sales for 2021!
Michigan legalized medical cannabis back in 2008 & ten years later in 2018 passed Proposal 1 making recreational sales to anyone 21 and up legal.
Until last year, medical marijuana sales led recreational sales, but in July of 2020 medical sales dropped to 48%. Since that time as you can see, that gap has continued to widen with medical sales now accounting for less than one in four cannabis dollar.
